FNHA COUNSELLING iN BC
Counselling for Indigenous people living in bC

what is FNHA Counselling?
You’re here because you want to feel better and move past the pain that has kept you stuck – FNHA counselling can help – get started right way. Our counselling services are designed to bring more optimal wellness to the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual parts of yourself.
Your qualified, master level counsellor at FreeMind Therapy is registered with the First Nations Health Authority, and Métis Nation BC and can provide expert help with trauma of all kinds, anxiety, grief and loss, substance use, and depression.
Many of our FNHA counselling and Métis Counselling Connection clients also seek support with relationship challenges, processing childhood or intergenerational trauma or abuse, systemic discrimination and racism, and residential school experiences. But you can seek FNHA counselling for anything that may present as a current difficulty in your life.
We have a team of licensed FNHA-approved counsellors at FreeMind Therapy. They are experienced, competent, culturally aware and can support our Indigenous clients with a broad range of issues.

Your therapist at FreeMind is honoured to be a witness to your wellness journey. Whether you identify strongly with your native culture or would like to learn about and incorporate your culture into your therapy sessions, or do not wish to incorporate this component, we honour and respect where you are at.
Our team at FreeMind Therapy is proud to be able to support Indigenous communities in urban and also very remote places all across BC.
We are passionate about seeing justice for Indigenous people in Canada and have worked with hundreds of Indigenous people in supporting their healing journey through counselling services.
Your FNHA approved counsellor
Our team is specifically trained and experienced in supporting Indigenous people with their mental health.
We have a select number of FNHA approved counsellors, offering pre-approved services through the First Nations Health Authority. Simply give us your Status number or fill out the form below, and we’ll apply on your behalf – if you’re a BC resident with a status number, you can begin counselling with us within 1 week!
FNHA approved Counsellors at FreeMind have taken the San’Yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, in addition to Masters level education. The training provides an account of the true history of Indigenous people on this land. These therapists have clinical experience working with Indigenous populations and the unique challenges they can face.
Your FNHA approved counsellor is acutely aware of the history of Indigenous experiences within Canada’s and BC’s health and mental health system and residential schools.
We are mindful about the prevalence and impact of the inter-generational trauma on today’s life circumstances. The devastating result of European settlers and European values being imposed so harshly on First Nations and other Indigenous people, has done undeniable harm to their families, culture, language, land and health. We are here to be an ally and contribute to healing this.
Métis Counselling Connection Program
Many of our counsellors at FreeMind Therapy are approved providers with the MNBC Métis Counselling Connection program. We are a team of counsellors in Vancouver and throughout BC who are able to offer culturally aware therapy to our Indigenous neighbours.
The Métis Counselling Connection program was set up to fill an unmet need in the community and our counsellors at FreeMind Therapy are experienced and equipped to support you. The waitlist can fluctuate and sometimes be long. But if you apply here, and email us your approval letter, we can get a head start on the process.
Our therapists have a unique understanding of the challenges surrounding cultural and racial intersectionality of the Métis Nation people in Canada.
Apply to the Métis Counselling Connection Program, here.
We are here to support you exactly where you are at and aim to create a safe space to explore your personal growth, your mental health and/or your identity in the society we live in.
Counsellors at FreeMind Therapy are passionate about bearing witness to your healing journey.
